iFixit Repair Manual
For this project, I worked on a Fast Fix Repair Manual for iFixit. The project goals included creating a repair manual that enables real people to:

-
Learn the best practices for effective repairs.
-
Minimize the research and stress associated with repairing broken items.
-
Help prevent broken items, especially electronics, from ending up in landfills, supporting iFixit’s mission.

This repair manual is designed to help everyday people learn how to repaint a stained wooden cabinet using the simplest techniques possible. The goal of this manual is to guide users through the process of refinishing the cabinet—transforming its look while preserving its original structure—so they can restore and enjoy their furniture instead of discarding it.
Throughout this project, I maintained regular communication with iFixit’s technical writing team. My first responsibility was to plan, write, and submit a manual proposal, which outlined:
-
The existing research available for the task
-
How my manual would improve upon current resources
-
The significance of this task for iFixit to feature in their collection
After iFixit approved my proposal, I began the repair process. I took numerous photos to document each step from a first-person perspective and carefully noted any unexpected challenges or hazards that users should be aware of to complete the task safely. After completing the repair, I submitted all the photos to iFixit for review before proceeding with writing the step-by-step instructions.
After finalizing the steps, applying the necessary markup to the images, and completing the Fast Fix introduction along with the time estimates, I submitted my guide. iFixit approved and accepted it for publication.
